Internet giant Google has restored the correct label over its Google Maps feature following a hacking incident in which the title over the location of Trump Tower in downtown New York was briefly replaced with “Dump Tower” on Saturday.
An unknown cyber-intruder breached Google’s defenses, swapping the legitimate label with the insulting name and made their escape.
Following the success of the first breach, the hackers pressed on and re-named Trump’s International Hotel & Tower in Manhattan “Dump International Hotel & Tower.”
Alerted to the hacking, Google took action, restored Trump Tower’s appropriate name and responded, saying:
“Some inappropriate names were surfacing in Google Maps that should not be, and we apologize for any offense this may have caused. Our teams immediately took action and have fixed the issue.”
President-elect Trump has yet to comment on the incident.
