Paul Ryan’s forewarning a fundraising boon for Bernie Sanders ‘Revolution’

In raising more than $2 million in donations for his Our Revolution political organization over a two week period, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders demonstrated his progressive appeal has endured following his primary loss to former Secretary Hillary Clinton and persists as a man of consequence for progressive causes.

Sanders also has House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to thank for the fundraising haul.

Ryan, campaigning in Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 14, notified supporters that a major loss of the Senate by Republicans would lead to the upper chamber’s Budget Committee gavel turned over to the ranking Democrat, Sen. Sanders.

“If we lose the Senate, do you know who becomes chair of the Senate Budget Committee?  A guy named Bernie Sanders. You ever heard of him?,” Ryan asked supporters at a rally.

Seizing the House Speaker’s words in a mass email campaign, Sanders’ post-primary creation, Our Revolution yanked in $2.4 million in the less than two weeks that followed Ryan’s utterance.

Eschewing a Hallmark card to convey thanks for his assistance, Sanders conveyed his gratitude to Speaker Ryan on Twitter.

Senator Sanders followed with a second tweet taking aim at the current Senate majority and marveling in the prospect of Democratic rule.

Perhaps Speaker Ryan should harness campaign tactics which highlight his achievements as leader instead of simply campaigning against the opposition.
