According to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission on Friday, Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s primary opponent outraised her campaign by $400,000 between April and June.
Tim Canova, a Nova Southeastern University law professor, raked in $1.7 million in the same April through June period when Wasserman-Schultz took in $1.3 million.
Canova had raised $559,000 in the first quarter of the year.
An ally of Democratic presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders, the increase in donations to Canova’s effort to oust Wasserman-Schultz is credited to the Vermont Independent’s May endorsement.
Although Canova reported an increase in donations for the second quarter, Wasserman-Schultz reported $1.6 million available in campaign funds in May as opposed to Canova’s $986,344.
