Comey deflects questions on Clinton Foundation

Enduring a four-hour cross examination by the House Oversight Committee Thursday, FBI Director James Comey refused to answer whether the Bureau included the Clinton Foundation in its recently-concluded investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

Asked directly by Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) if the FBI “looked into the Clinton Foundation,” the Director replied:

“I’m not going to comment on the existence or non-existence any other investigations.”

Asked a similar follow-up question, Comey again declined to answer.

The FBI has never publicly acknowledged if it is investigating the Clinton Foundation.

In a separate but related case, conservative government watchdog Citizens United was granted a victory in late June when a federal judge ordered the emails of a former Clinton aide, Lona Valmoro, released to examine the two-week period prior to 14 foreign trips the former Secretary made during her tenure at the State Department.

Citizens United is attempting to establish if the likely Democratic nominee covertly scheduled meetings with foreign donors to the family foundation while serving as Secretary of State.

The Foundation has been assailed over the past several years with critics claiming the charity did little work and served as nothing more than a front for foreign influence peddling and a slush fund for Hillary Clinton’s White House ambitions.
