Specifying the need to “push back against online harassment and defend Hillary Clinton from baseless attacks” and pledging in excess of $1 million, the pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC, Correct the Record, is set to embark on an online attack campaign across four major social media platforms.
Correct the Record plans targeting users of Reddit, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
In its announcement, Correct the Record stated:
“Correct The Record will invest more than $1 million into Barrier Breakers 2016 activities, including the more than tripling of its digital operation to engage in online messaging both for Secretary Clinton and to push back against attackers on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and Instagram.”
“Lessons learned from online engagement with ‘Berni Bros’ during the Democratic Primary will be applied to the rest of the primary season and general election – responding quickly and forcefully to negative attacks and false narratives.”
The statement on the PAC’s website also expresses fear Hillary’s supporters have in engaging political conversation with Clinton’s opponents online. One passage specifically highlights alleged “intense cyber-bullying and sexist attacks from swarms of anonymous attackers” on female supporters of Clinton.
Although forbidden from liaising with campaigns, Federal Election Commission loopholes apparently permit Clinton and Correct the Record to engage in this online campaign.
According to Sunlight Foundation’s Libby Watson, Citizens United “rests on PACs remaining independent, but it seems to be that material posted on the Internet for free — like, blogs — doesn’t count as an ‘independent expenditure.’”
Attuned as she is, this is Hillary playing the long-suffering victim again, and what more-effective way than to claim “swarms” of online “cyber bullies” are attacking her.
The newest organ in the age-old “Clinton Attack Machine,” Correct the Record does no such thing; on the contrary, it is a Left-wing propaganda engine fabricated to do Hillary’s dirty work under the guise of a legitimate political organization.
By trumpeting this new crusade as a mission to salvage her reputation sullied by fearless but anonymous online assassins, Hillary is laying odds she will strengthen her incessant political posturing as an innocent political victim.
While social media users have frequently demonstrated zeal in lobbing defamatory comments and use these platforms to spread false information, the application of retaliatory measures almost exclusively involve an escalation of the war of words and heightened smears.
This, however, is Hillary Clinton, and while there exists some brute devils on the internet, no other candidate seeking their party’s nomination has constructed an apparatus such as this, nor have they committed the resources to contest online comments and engage in nasty online brawling.
Get ready for Hillary to bring her gutter politics online.
