After concluding remarks at SUNY Purchase on Thursday, Hillary Clinton was caught in a moment of uneasiness when confronted with the accusation she routinely accepts campaign donations from fossil-fuel companies.
Asked by Greenpeace activist Eva Resnick-Day if Clinton would renounce further donations from petroleum and natural-gas companies, the Democratic front-runner bitterly rebutted the allegation, abruptly cut Day off, spoke over her and with a wrathful finger wag responded:
“I do not have — I have money from people who work for fossil fuel companies. I am so sick of the Sanders campaign lying about me. I’m sick of it!”
Following Clinton’s counter-charge contending the Sanders’ campaign was lying, Jeff Weaver, Sanders’ campaign manager, labeled Clinton’s fundraising from the energy sector as “cagey.”
“What the Clinton campaign is cagey about — it doesn’t really wanna talk about — is the fact their super PAC gets money from people connected with fossil fuel industry. And it is the lobbyists, it is the fact that they have lobbyists from the fossil fuel industry,” Weaver told MSNBC.
Campaigning in Wisconsin on Friday, Sanders replied to Clinton’s claim his campaign is dishonest.
“If you include money given to super PACs backing Clinton, the fossil fuel industry has given more than $4.5 million in support of Clinton’s bid.”
Sanders then issued a call for Clinton to apologize, a gesture at which the Clinton camp scoffed.
Weak in the knees, this petty rage is so characteristic of Hillary Clinton.
When challenged about the sources of her donations, Hillary fumes and answers obliquely: She admits she accepts donations from those close to fossil-fuel companies, but obscures funds tied directly to the maligned energy sector and never reveals PACs connected to her campaign accept petroleum or natural gas donations.
For someone often hailed as a figure of unequal grace and courage, Hillary revealed herself to be a woman of extraordinary rage.
Stumbling while attempting to keep her lies straight, Clinton’s political vulnerability is exposed.
Deeply embittered that Bernie Sanders has persisted in the race and has forced the Clinton campaign to spend precious resources to blunt verified charges of her ties to Wall Street and the energy sector and forcing her to constantly check her centrist inclinations, Hillary reveals she lacks the political temperament to manage even minimal discomfort.
This incident reveals Hillary’s self-importance: Flatter her or face her vengeance.
