Clinton, Clooney demand exuberant sum for seats at Hollywood fundraiser

Relying on ingenuity, resilience and an ability to adapt to keep pace with insurgent Vermont socialist Bernie Sanders, California-based venture capitalist Shervin Pishevar is hosting a fundraiser at his San Francisco home for Hillary Clinton in April.

To boost Clinton’s campaign war chest, the asking price for two seats at the table in the presence of Clinton, George Clooney and his wife Amal is an immodest $353,400.

Following the pricey April 15 fundraiser hosted by Pishevar, a second gathering at the Studio City home of Clooney and his wife will be held on April 16 at the cut-rate sum of $33,400, the legal limit for donations to the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

During an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders assailed Clinton’s presence at the fundraising events, stating:

“It is obscene that Secretary Clinton keeps going to big money people to fund her campaign.  This is the problem with American politics, is that big money is dominating our political system, and we are trying to move as far away from that as we can.”

Although Sanders previously pledged to support the Democratic presidential nominee, he has distanced himself from that pledge this past week, but tried to walk back his demand for five specific policy goals that Clinton would have to adopt to secure his endorsement.

George:  Get over “it” and get over yourself.

Evidently, Mr. Clooney has a lower opinion of Mrs. Clinton than Mr. Obama:  Clooney hosted a $40,000-plate fundraiser for Obama at his home in 2012 after a game of basketball with the chief executive.

It is difficult to determine which person is awestruck, Clinton in Clooney’s presence or Clooney in Clinton’s presence.

Clooney’s rise to the top of the Hollywood ego pyramid includes appearances in Hollywood busts such as And They’re Off (1982), Return to Horror High (1987), where, amid second billing, his ego briefly shared the stage with Brady Bunch veteran Maureen McCormick in the twilight of her career, and Return of the Killer Tomatoes! (1988).

“Guest” appearances on television shows such as The Facts of Life and Roseanne, which venerated uneducated, white trash from the suburbs of Chicago, followed to abet his career.

From Rosanne to Hillary is not so much a climb up a ladder, but a lateral move.

A middling talent who maneuvered into the director’s chair, Clooney leveraged reality for the glory of a faux gold statue with Syriana (2006), where his amateur sleuthing uncovered for the trillionth time the previously well-known fact American petroleum companies do indeed share a cozy relationship with the pillars of influence in Washington, D.C. to gain access to Middle Eastern energy resources.

Wife Amal, a titular human rights attorney, whose clients include former Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyrivna Tymoshenko, charged with embezzlement of state funds and tax fraud, and King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa of Bahrain, who has a less-than-sterling human rights record, is little better.  Both are self-absorbed and have superficial interest in humanitarian efforts they claim they champion.

As for Hillary, this is presumed behavior:  Expecting the world to turn around her and vengeful the Sanders’ campaign has survived, spoiled Hillary dives in head first to collect booty from the Hollywood crowd she both uses and adores.

Perhaps Clinton and Clooney can chat up about his inability to hide his unimpressive start in Hollywood.  One can reliably hypothesize Hillary is eminently skilled in attempting to conceal her past bad behavior.

Knowing Clooney, ever the capitalist, he’ll sell pictures of the garish event to the highest-bidding tabloid.
