Tea Party group to mount primary challenge against Sen. Jerry Moran

Launching a broadside against a sitting member of the U.S. Senate, conservative group Tea Party Patriots Citizen Fund has announced its intent to back and finance a primary challenge to Kansas Republican Jerry Moran.

Moran announced this week he supports hearings for Supreme Court nominee, Judge Merrick Garland.

“Grassroots activists in Kansas and across the country are furious that Senator Jerry Moran has decided to join President Obama in denying them a voice in the next Supreme Court Justice with their votes in November,” said Tea Party Patriots Citizen Fund Chairwoman Jenny Beth Martin.

Referring to Garland as “a liberal who will threaten the right to bear arms and side with big government agencies,” the group has set its sights on recruiting Dr. Milton Wolf to confront Moran in Kansas’ August GOP primary.

Wolf attempted to unseat Kansas’ Pat Roberts in 2014, but lost in the primary.

Moran joins several GOP senators who have called for hearings to be held on President Obama’s nominee, Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Susan Collins (R-ME) among them; Kirk has expressed a willingness to meet with and vote on Garland’s nomination.
