Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has announced he will be “suspending” his presidential campaign after a disappointing showing in the South Carolina primary Saturday.
With 66 percent of precincts reporting, Gov. Bush has only tallied 8 percent of the vote, 13 points behind third-place Marco Rubio, and 25 points behind projected winner Donald Trump.
Rumors began to pick-up this week that Bush would not continue a run for the White House after South Carolina when Gov. Nikki Haley endorsed Sen. Marco Rubio’s candidacy.
Bush’s exit could benefit Sen. Rubio as the “establishment lane” has been narrowed to two candidates, including Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
Next on the schedule for the GOP is the Nevada caucus on February 23.
