Neil Young to Donald Trump: don’t use my song

Potential U.S. president and noted hair enthusiast Donald Trump is already having a rough time. During his campaign announcement on Wednesday, Trump chose to play Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Who’s less than happy about this? Neil Young.

Young’s manager subsequently said he requested Trump’s camp to stop using “Rockin’ in the Free World,” and the developer-politician’s representatives have said they will no longer play it during his campaign.

U.S. law allows politicians to play songs legally, but with certain licensing deals campaigns are required to contact the individual or company that owns the rights to the song. Regardless, with all the negative press, Trump has dropped “Free World” from his campaign lineup.

So who is Young’s pick for president? His representative released this statement:

“Donald Trump was not authorized to use “Rockin’ In The Free World” in his presidential candidacy announcement. Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for President of the United States of America.”

No word yet on whether we can expect Sanders to rock out to “Cinnamon Girl.”
