South Carolina cop charged with murder in shooting of unarmed man

North Charleston Police Department officer Michael Slager has been charged with the murder of 50-year-old African-American Walter Scott.

Slager was stopping Scott for a broken taillight, and the video below shows Scott running away from the officer who then fired eight shots at him before he drops to the ground.

In the video you also see Slager approach Scott’s body and placing him in handcuffs, after which he runs back to where he fired the shots and picks up what is believed to be his taser and drops it next to Scott.

“Shots fired and the subject is down. He took my taser,” said Slager according to police reports.

The video was taken by a bystander who witnessed the events and gave the footage to the New York Times.

“I can tell you that as the result of that video and the bad decision made by our officer, he will be charged with murder,” said North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey in a news conference.

The raw video is below if you want to judge the events yourself as they were recorded.
