Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the shooting attack [this past weekend] outside a Copenhagen synagogue that killed a Danish Jew by urging all European Jews to get the heck out of Europe and come back home, reports Business Insider:
Netanyahu says the government on Sunday will discuss a $46 million plan to encourage Jewish immigration from France, Belgium and Ukraine.
The plan aims to bring about a “significant increase” in the number of immigrants by boosting Hebrew studies, holding immigration fairs, and posting more immigration officials in those countries, according to a government statement.
“This wave of attacks is expected to continue,” Netanyahu said at the start of a Cabinet meeting. “Jews deserve security in every country, but we say to our Jewish brothers and sisters, Israel is your home.”
The recommendation has surprisingly not been met with glee by all the Jews in Europe. For instance, Jair Melchior, Denmark’s chief rabbi, expressed disappointment with Netanyahu’s statement. His argument is that running from terrorism makes no sense, and that the Jews in Europe who like living there should remain there.
Mind you, the Jews who live in Europe must contend with a whole lot of terrorism. It was only a month ago that the patrons of a kosher deli in Paris were attacked.
So what would you do if you were a European Jew? Would you flee the home you built to escape terrorism, or would you hunker down and stay put – to hell with the terrorists?[Business Insider]
