For all of you history nuts out there, this past week scientists raised the Confederate submarine the H.L. Hunley from the depths of Charleston Harbour.
The Hunley was discovered in 1995 and actually raised the first time in 2000. It has been raised again to analyse the hull and the mystery behind its sinking.
151 years ago this month in February 1864, the Hunley and its eight man crew set out into Charleston Harbour in an attempt to break the Union’s blockade of the South. While undertaking this mission the Hunley became the first submarine in history to sink a vessel when it sank the USS Housatonic.
