Obama sending record budget proposal to Congress for FY 2016

On Monday, President Obama will announce his plan for a $4 trillion budget beginning Oct. 1. The proposal will include $478 billion in funding for a public works program which will upgrade and repair America’s decaying roads, bridges, and transit lines.

In order to pay for the effort, President Obama is asking Congress to approve increased taxes on U.S. companies, large financial institutions and wealthy individuals. In addition, the budget will also include $60 billion to fund free community college for students in states who choose to participate.

Speaking Sunday from the White House kitchen before the Super Bowl, Obama commented on his proposal:

“My job is not to trim my sails and not tell the American people what we should be doing, pretending somehow we don’t need better roads, that we don’t need more affordable college.”
